Please be my mentor!
Are you multi-talented but you've been told you can't be good at everything, that you should make up your mind and pick only one of your many talents and interests? I know your pain. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt, tore it to pieces and now walk around just in my bikini-top whenever I can. My asset (that many others call problem) is that I can do, and succeed, at whatever I put my energy in, whatever it is. Here's an example. Over seven years ago, I was teaching drama in a private high school. I had the crazy idea to write and shoot a feature movie with my students. I had never had done a lot of theatre, but never written a scenario, held a camera, nor done any kind of editing. Still, I felt very strongly it was something I had to do. I went to the principal, asked if I could do it, and when he asked if I knew how to do that, I answered "Of course! It's not gonna be a problem. Piece of cake." He believed me. I now had to make it happen. And I did. We had an amazing Red Carpet Event to present the movie to parents and media, it was a huge success. It worked because I believed we could do it. Was it easy? Hell no! Was it worth it? Ohhh yeahhh. Why work with me? I have lived outside the box most of my life. In high school, I was acutely aware that people didn't know what to think of me because my motto was "If you don't like the way I look, look somewhere else." I always (or almost ) followed my guts. No one can tell me "You can't do that", if they do, that's my best motivation to prove them wrong! At 18, I auditioned for the National School of Theatre of Canada to be a stage director. First attempt, they told me I was too young. Fine. Came back a year later. Then I needed more experience. Fine. I worked like a mad woman in different projects to gain experience. The third time I tried, they told me I should reconsider my career choice. I created my own musical theatre company, it was a big success for 4 years, till I decided I wanted to do something else. If you want to work with someone who will: believe in you and help you prove the nay-sayers wrong kick you in the butt when you need it help you find strategies that work for you tell you what you need to hear, which is not necessarily what you want to hear help you tweak your projects and ideas till they work play your own little loving Devil's Advocate to find the pit falls and correct them assist you in thinking through all the details celebrate your success with you I'm your girl.
Dare. Be your whole self. No Compromise. Coaching and more from someone who lives outside the box.
